AM YISRAEL CHAI

The literal translation is “the nation of Israel lives.”
But the resonance for many Jews is much deeper. It represents pride in our history of overcoming persecution and adversity,
determination and confidence, and that we will be able to meet any challenges the future might bring.

Plan to join us for B’nai Amoona’s upcoming Fundraiser –
as we welcome Max Levin & his mother, Judy Levin,
to St. Louis for a special homecoming weekend June 11 & 12, 2022!

Max is a 2007 graduate of Solomon Schechter Day School of St. Louis
(now Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School).

Max will recount, in person, his experience in the 2014 “Operation Protective Edge,” the latest of the Gaza-Israeli conflicts as an American-born Israeli soldier who immigrated in 2012 to join the Israeli army. He will share his personal stories as a soldier who joined an elite paratrooper unit as an American-raised boy, with American values, serving in the modern Israeli army. His story is recounted in his book, Under the Stretcher.

Sunday, June 12, 2022, B’nai Amoona will host a community-wide program at 1:00 pm to hear Max speak about his experiences and sign copies of his book, Under the Stretcher. Max will also be introducing us to his army friend, Eial Ovin, who now makes Mezuzot from Israel’s olive wood and resin.

More about Under the Stretcher by Max Levin:

"A gripping account of an American Jewish youth's service in an elite unit of the Israeli paratroopers. A must-read for young people who are considering serving as a Lone Soldier in the IDF or making Aliyah to Israel.”
~ Michael Oren—Former Ambassador to the United States of America

Max’s story exemplifies what it means to be a good soldier and the morals that we instill in our young men and women. He goes above and beyond and shows a new side of being an Israeli soldier, one that not only faced difficult decisions but also shows the vulnerabilities and strength our young men and women endure. I recommend this book to all that support Israel, its army, and those that want to better understand on the ground situations here in the Middle East. Max’s story has shown the reality of being an IDF soldier today and his continued commitment to the reserves (miluim).”
~ Brigadier General Rami Zur, Second Division Commander of the Paratrooper Reserves
