Scholar-in-REsidence Weekend

December 5 - 7 

SAVE THE DATE for an unforgettable Scholar-in-Residence Weekend with Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, Chief Rabbi of the Abayudaya Jewish Community of Uganda. 

On Friday night, Rabbi Gershom will lead Kabbalat Shabbat services, featuring the beautiful music of the Abayudaya community. Following services, the congregation will gather for a Shabbat dinner together. After dinner, Rabbi Gershom will present an engaging session, covering the topics: “Storytelling: Illuminating Tales from the Lives of the Abayudaya” and “The Intersections of Biography and History: Rabbi Gershom’s Life Story.”

On Shabbat morning, he will deliver the D’var Torah on “Torah from Africa.” After Kiddush lunch, he will lead a Lunch and Learn titled “Jewish Peoplehood: The Importance of Shared Values, Unique Perspectives, and Real Relationships.”

The weekend will conclude after Havdalah with a special presentation in the library, “Resilience and Renewal: The Unique History of the Abayudaya Jewish Community of Uganda,” featuring videos and slides that bring the story to life.
