As we prepare for a much needed Shabbat, I wanted to share with you an important message from our local St. Louis Rabbinical and Cantorial Association. As the letter suggests, the Klei Kodesh of all the congregations and agencies are working closely together to support one another and support our greater St. Louis Kehillah. We are - after all - in this together!
And just in case you needed a gentle textual reminder of this truism, here is a poignant tale from Rabbinic Tradition (Midrash Vayikra Rabbah, 4:6) that underscores the point:
"A group of people were travelling in a boat. Once the vessel reached the deepest waters, one of them took out a drill and began boring a hole beneath his seat. His companions said to him: "Why are you doing this?" Replied the man: "What concern is it of yours? Am I not drilling only under my own place?" Said they to him: "But you will flood the boat for us all!"
We are indeed all in this together and it is only together that will we extricate ourselves and ultimately transcend this unprecedented challenging period in human history. Let us commit to joining hearts and spirits in this effort!
