Intergenerational Service Machzorim
A wonderful anonymous donor has provided prayer books for our all new Intergenerational services and we are giving families the opportunity to have a bookplate placed in the books as a legacy contribution. The bookplates can be customized to honor or remember a loved one, represent families, or for whatever gift moves your heart. The bookplates can be ordered in advance for a minimum donation of $36 (or any additional multiple of $18). Bookplates may be ordered up to Monday, September 23.

Atid Amoona (Grades 3-5): Mark your calendars for October 6! We will enjoy our social action program, "Yes, We CAN!" This program will take place at B'nai Amoona from 11:30 am - 4:00 pm and include a Kosher pizza lunch... Don't forget to bring a canned food item - we will use them during the program AND we will donate them to the Harvey Kornblum Food Pantry afterwards.
Kadima (Grades 6-7): Thank you to all who RSVP'd for our trip to the St. Louis Center. We will see everyone this Sunday, September 22! This program will begin at 11:30 am at B'nai Amoona where we will enjoy a Kosher pizza lunch and then head to the Science Center. Pick-up will be back at B'nai Amoona 3:30 pm.
Chalutzim (Grade 8): Thank you to all who RSVP'd - we will see you at our first meeting this Sunday September 22 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. We will enjoy a Kosher pizza lunch while planning our first outside program.

Social Action
Please be generous this year for Operation Isaiah, our drive to benefit the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry. Everyone will receive a paper bag that has instructions after Rosh Hashanah services. Please return your bag on Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur filled with nonperishable foods and paper goods.
On Sunday, October 13, we will sort the contents beginning at 1:00 pm in the Banquet Hall area. Presorting allows the food pantry to distribute our donations in a few days - feel free to bring donations on this day as well

Israel Updates: Elections, Peace Plan and What's Next? An Evening with David Makovsky

The Jewish Community Relations Council, through the sponsorship of Dr. Carl and Lynn Lyss in memory of Paul and Bluma Lyss and Dr. Stanley B. Lyss, present an evening with David Makovsky. The event is in collaboration with the Center for Jewish Learning and B'nai Amoona.
David Makovsky is the Ziegler distinguished fellow at The Washington Institute and director of the Project on Arab-Israel Relations. He is also an adjunct professor in Middle East studies at Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). In 2013-2014, he worked in the Office of the U.S. Secretary of State, serving as a senior advisor to the Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations.
Join us for this timely discussion a week after the scheduled Israeli elections and the release of Makovsky's new book with Dennis Ross Be Strong and of Good Courage: How Israel's Most Important Leaders Shaped Its Destiny.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities at Covenant Place Next week, the last of 102 senior residents will move into the new Covenant Place II! We are still in need of volunteers to help pack and unpack the residents along their move. We have added additional volunteer time slots -- both weekdays and weekends, mornings and afternoons. We have also added a volunteer opportunity to help residents hang artwork in their new homes. We are in the final stretch; thank you for helping us make it to the finish line!

Seeking Community Gatekeepers
Jewish Family & Children’s Service is seeking “community connectors” to serve as Gatekeepers for vulnerable seniors. A Gatekeeper helps keep an eye out for relatives, neighbors, or friends who may be struggling with the challenges of aging. The JF&CS team will reach out to and work with these identified seniors one-on-one to develop a plan that helps them maintain independence, confidence, and a sense of connection to the local community.
