Elul is the Hebrew month preceding the High Holy Days. There are many traditions observed during this month including making time for personal self reflection, study and awareness of our actions towards others. This year's Elevating Elul series includes the reflections and voices of our congregants to help us come together as a community and prepare for the new year.
In this Elul piece, BA Member Sheryl Kalman writes about crossing a metaphorical bridge and how it's not always been a smooth ride. However, even the bumpiest of bridges can lead to brighter futures.
A Time To Mourn and a Time To Dance By: Sheryl Kalman
Over this last year and a half, I have felt that our family has been traveling along a long narrow windy, rickety bridge with a few detours along the way to deal with many medical challenges.
We’ve been fortunate to have skilled medical professionals and a village to give us a hand over the rough spots. Through it all, we’ve taken time to celebrate holidays and birthdays. Zoom became our tool to peer into the larger world, much like an outlook point in the mountain road let’s us see the beauty, even if we can’t hike.
Now that the medical challenges have stabilized, we’d like to thank God for bringing us to this point, and look forward to celebrating our son Kenny's wedding and marriage to our future daughter-in-law, Heidi, with hope of a brighter future.
