Some people do yoga, meditate, exercise, or pray to relieve stress and manage the uncertainty of Covid-19, while Ellie prefers to write, cook, and eat as a way of nourishing herself and those she loves. Her ongoing diary, “What’s Cookin?,” has turned into a time capsule in which she documents the latest coronavirus statistics, newsworthy events, personal family experiences, and, of course, what she concocts for dinner each night. While Ellie’s story is her own, it’s reflective of what Jewish women all over North America endured, and gives a chicken-soup-size dose of real pragmatism on how to focus on the one thing we can control—food on the table— when the world all around us seems out of control.
