B'nai Amoona Responds to the Supreme Court's Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
Our Klei Kodesh and Senior Staff members of Congregation B’nai Amoona affirm a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. In doing so, we condemn the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
We stand by the statement recently issued by the Rabbinical Assembly that says, in part, we are "outraged by the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court to end the Constitutional right to abortion and deny access to lifesaving medical procedures for millions of individuals in the U.S., in what will be regarded as one of the most extreme instances of governmental overreach in our lifetime."
This Shabbat and weekend we will have the opportunity to join together in support of human rights. Beginning with Pride Shabbat tonight at 6:00 pm and following up with a virtual rally and educational opportunity with Access MO and co-sponsored by B'nai Amoona, Shaare Emeth, and JCRC.
All are invited to join us TONIGHT for Pride Shabbat. As a congregation, we believe that all people are created B'Tzelem Elohim, in the image of God. We celebrate the progress made by the Pride movement while also committing to do the continued work in ensuring LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion.
We look forward to hearing first hand stories and reflections from our guest speakers, Dr. Sharon Vermont and her son, Sage Vermont.
About Dr. Sharon Vermont: Sharon Dunski Vermont is a Jewish wife and mother as well as a pediatrician who specializes in transgender health. Her LGBTQ advocacy began after learning that someone whom she loved was part of that community. She often writes and speaks about transgender issues in order to educate and to change hearts and and minds.
About Sage Vermont: Sage Vermont is a 23 year old bisexual, trans man. He is in school to be a funeral director and embalmer. In his free time he enjoys writing, making music and spending time with his dogs.

Shabbat Morning Services beginning next Shabbat, July 2 will begin at 9:30 am. This will continue through the month of July. Additionally, on Friday, July 22, B'nai Amoona will have two Evening Services. Our traditional Service will take place at 6:00 pm, and a second Friday Evening Service will take place at 7:30 pm with Dr. David Kantor.
After several years of utilizing Zoom for Shabbat & Holy Day Services, the time has come to retire the use of the Kosher Zoom of these sacred days. We will continue to use our steaming services and Facebook Live on Shabbes, but Zoom will no longer be an option. We will, however, still make participation in Torah for Today available on Zoom for those who are not yet comfortable joining us in our building. Of course, Zoom will remain an option for our weekday prayer services. Wishing you all a Shabbat Shalom and look forward to seeing you soon in our beautiful Bet Knesset.
With love, Reb Carnie
D'var Torah From Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham
This Week's Torah Portion is
Sh'lach
After a two year hiatus due to Covid, the opportunity to visit congregants at Jewish sleep-away camps is back in my summer plans. I am excited to have this opportunity return and see our children in such a wonderful, informal educational setting. When I visit, I often think of the first annual foray into a “new” camp with the 12 spies we encounter in this week’s Torah portion.
Parashat Sh'lach L'kha provides two diametrically different reports from the spies who were sent to “scout” the Land of Israel....click here to read more...
A Message From Rabbi Carnie Shalom Rose Before He Departs For Israel Once Again
I will once again be visiting Eretz Israel from June 29 - July 15 and will happily be collecting Shaliach Mitzvah Gelt & Kvitelach for the Kotel until Tuesday Afternoon, June 28. You are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these two unique and powerful Jewish customs associated with such Pilgrimages.
Minhag (custom #1) Shaliach Mitzvah Gelt: There is a tradition to give money, in any denomination, to those traveling to Eretz Yisrael who then become emissaries of kindness, providing sustenance to our brothers and sisters in Israel who are in need of Tzedakah. If you would like me to serve as your emissary, please drop your cash donations off in my office in an envelope marked "Shaliach Mitzvah Gelt". I always make a visit to the Kotel - the Western Wall - a top priority upon my arrival in Israel. I would be delighted to share your generosity with those who wait patiently by the Wall knowing Jews from around the world yearn to support one another. Our Tradition also indicates that “emissaries of kindness are protected from harm”; so your kindness will also secure my safe return. Todah Rabbah!
Minhag (custom #2) Kvitelach for the Kotel: A Kvitel is a small, handwritten note with your name on it and, generally speaking, includes the name of your mother (as is the prevailing procedure for Prayers for Healing). It is my responsibility to deliver these secret thoughts (which I do not read) to the Kotel and pray on behalf of our community/congregation. I already have several such notes and I would be happy to collect even more such missives. These Kvitelach should include whatever is in your heart, and please feel free to petition God for whatever it is that you most deeply desire or require. Again, please place your notes in an envelope and indicate that a "Kvitel for the Kotel" is enclosed.
I look forward to seeing you before we depart. If for any reason we do not have a chance to connect, I bless each of you with health, happiness and peace. And dear friends, I ask in return that you join me as we pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and our beloved Homeland...
With deepest affection and appreciation,
Rabbi Carnie Shalom Rose, Senior Rabbinic Chair
